Title: Peacock Out of opener
Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 08:58:16

Now there is a suprise Peacock injured or carrying a knock.Cant see him playing much this year to be honest anyway but still shit as he is probably the only decent midfield cover we got.

He'll be out a while as he has achilles problems, and if he needs surgery he will be in plaster for 3 months and out for a couple more on top. It probably will be an op as once they go very hard to keep in check with physio.

Not the worst news, hopefully we can play on technically better players than reply on plodders like Peacock this season.  Very intelligent player, he knows exactly how to get the fans on side and plays to it.  Timlin is a far superior player to Peacock.

Watch him slide to stop the ball from going out for a throw in on the halfway line, all very unimportant stuff.

I agree Jan

Having said that though, I do agree to a certain extent with your "he is probably the only decent midfield cover we got" comment.  I think Allen's got potential and is progressing well, but Peacock is not a bad player to have as cover.  But like I said I would prefer to get someone else in and let LP go.

I thought MM was considering using upfront again?

Don't get me started on that Sippo!  Peacock up front, pfft.

didnt most of our defeats last season co-incide with peacock being out? no co-incidence i think

peacock is now clearly an injury prone player.his age is against him so it wont improve imo.
that said i think janaage has been a bit harsh on the bloke.
if he didn't go for the ball to keep it in play, he'd get slated.nothing to do with playing to the fans.it is better to have the ball at your feet, simple as.
i've been critical of the bloke, but he rolls his socks up and gives his all.
hopefully he can get fit, as he is a valuable squad member if not an auto starter.

Injury prone player who played 41 games last season?

Only Ifil (43) JPM (46) Comminges (47) and Aljofree (44) played more....

he hobbled off a few times didn't he? and was crocked towards the seasons end.he aint got over it,it seems. so he looks injury prone to me nowadays.
i could have it completely wrong, and hope i have.its' just the way it looks to me dv

Malpas has said that Peacock is a striker, hopefully Paynter and Cox have a flying start to the season, and Corr (when fit) will be the cover for the 2 forwards and Peacock cover for Easton and Timlin, Peacock is mint just Easton and Timlin have a bit more

As far as Malpas is concerned positions wise Peacock has been counted as a striker, hence all the reference to him being up against Paynter for a start.  Only think we'll see him in midfield if theres injuries.

I wouldnt say he was injury prone, because that to me means he's out injured all the time and only makes a handful of appearences all season and when he does he quickly gets injured again.

Barry Corr is injury prone.

Peacock, to me it seems just hasnt rested enough for all his little niggles to go away. I of course could be totally wrong.

However, I think we are a better side with Peacock on it and would miss him if he was out injured for a lengthly spell.

i agree with DV, u cant class Peacock as injury prone cos he isnt 'prone' to injuries, he just had a injury at the end of last season which hasnt cleared up yet.

he has had all pre season to rest dv. and although i dont think he was injury prone. i think he has become so.
agree about barry corr.and also agree we will miss peacock as he is a valuable squad member

And that just goes to show the real quality of this side.  If we miss Peacock that much then another mid table finish is the best we can expect.  The bloke is a very limited footballer, here I was hoping that we might actually start playing some decent football in the coming months.

Peacock is quite capable of playing decent football on the deck. Infact when playing in midfield I'd go as far as to say he was probably our best passer of the ball.

I fail to see how playing Peacock would translate to us not playing decent football?

...also, if we win I dont fucking care!

Not a great fan of Peacock, though he has a bit of quality about him in flashes, dont think we will miss him because its a new start and any one player being unfit isnt no great shakes, none of them are that influential that it makes a great difference...Cox being unfit would be my main concern.

u need the likes of Peacock in your team, the two best 'footballing' centre mids are Chrissy Allen and Timlin, they get destroyed playing together, u need a balance, a ball winner and a 'footballer'. so one of either Peacock or Easton and either Chrissy or Timlin

as he is versatile. he can do a few roles pretty well when need be.
thats why he is valuable to the squad.
if fit i think its a toss up between him and paynter to partner cox.and when corr is fit i'd pick him over both of them.
when easton-timlin get injured, knackered, suspended. peacock will do a decent job in the middle of the park.

My strike partner for Cox would be in this order:

Paynter
Corr
Joyce
Hyde
Roberts
Peacock

Well that's where I'm sure we've disagreed before DV.  This probably goes back to the days when we were playing some of the best football in the country competing against sides like Cambridge who were playing win at all costs football.  Not interested in that to be honest, I want us to play decent football, then results will follow.

I'd obviously total disgaree with that order.

Paynter
Peacock
Corr
Joyce

I wouldnt even consider the other two at all

Win at all costs for me. Arsenal play some great football they really do but I expect most of their fans would have perfered for Arsenal to be in Manchester United shoes this season with a League and European Cup double

Cox
Paynter
Corr
Peacock
Sturrock

Hmmmm Cox partnering Cox why didnt I think of that...

The reason I put Corr so far down is because, he is actually injury prone...

Fair enough DV, each to their own.  I can honestly say that the happiest I felt all season (leaving the CG) was after the Carlisle match, when we ripped them to shreds, okay we didn't win, but you could see that the team were starting to understand what MM  is trying to achieve, the football we played that day was superb.  Performance was great, result was not, still made me happy and proud of the team/management/club.

Same here in a way, same as that Sheffield Wednesday match all those years ago....

However, if we'd playing crap football and beat Carlisle 3-1 I would have been even happier....

I cant remember the exact stats, but I think Peacock missed 10 league games last season we lost 8 drew 1 and won 1.

Could be wrong though.
