I'm old enough to remember Maurice Owen (vaguely), Ken McPherson and Mel Nurse. All pretty dominant in the air from what I remember.

The first CB pair I remember was Mel Nurse with Stan Harland.
Nurse subsequently was replaced but Frank Burrows in 1968 - Burrows and Harland was a strong pairing - as were Calderwood and Taylor.
Context is important too - pitches were very different, balls heavier and games more physical - some tackles which would get a straight red card today would not even have brought a free kick in those days. Defending in the modern game requires a very different skill set from those days.
Adge referred to Maurice Owen - I never saw h8m play, but I vaguely recall him being the “trainer” in the 70’s after Harry Cousins retired.

Am I the only one on here with literally no recollection of us having a player called Donal McDermott.

I remember that goal but those Flitcroft/Brown seasons were absolutely desperate.

Didn't he do one of the more interesting LSPod player interviews? Quite severe MH issues, from memory.

Genuinely gutted for Lyden playing at that level. There's a Championship midfielder in there if only he could stay fit.

Talented player but you could tell his heart wasn't in it. Got sent off when Barnet trounced us 4-0 at the County Ground. He did a loathed strangers interview where he talked a lot about the mental health issues he faced while being a footballer, seems like Swindon was the final straw for his career and he decided to do something else which seems to make him very happy!

Remember it well.

Paul Downing was on trial here in the summer wasn't he?

A fair few ex Town players on the scoresheet yesterday again.

Luongo for Ipswich, Yates for Swansea, Collins x2 for Derby, Masterson for Gills, Darcy for Crawley, Bostock for Notts C, Barry for Stockport, Stevens for Yeovil and Hylton x2 for Arbroath.
