Still the best season for me ever, far better than the play off seasons under Ardiles and Hoddle and the Premier season combined. If only we managed a couple of better results after the Wolves away defeat when we were only 3 points off the autos.

It was the previous season 78-79 that we just missed promotion our last three games were away winning at Brentford then losing to Sheffield Wednesday & Blackpool. The following season we finished 10th but did have the great cup runs.

I really hope we are aiming a little bit higher than just players from Walsall and Newport, who both finished below us last season. Especially given what we need to move out the squad. When Wellens brought in players he knew, he at least had a decent base to add to.

Up until the Wolves game we were right up there as well in 79/80. 5 points off 3rd place with 4 games in hand. We should have gone up with the team that we had, but we went to pieces afterwards.

Agreed, both seasons were fantastic to watch and unlucky to not to go up.

Actual rumour time. LS Pods very own Dan Hunt linking us to Yeovils GK Grant Smith. Would assume as backup.

Yeah I mean his CV suggests that he's a 29 year old keeper that has played most of his career in non-league. That would definitely suggest a 'cheap' backup.

Would be happy with Ward as no 1 keeper.
Use the budget to improve what's in front of him.

With a decent defence we won't need some L2 version of Alisson in goal.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Using the evidence of this season alone, Stevenage seemed to rely on 7 different keepers this season. The fella that was in net for them when they won 1-0 at the CG was an emergency on loan from Hull - and he played like a competition winner but they were absolutely defensively sound, backing up what you say Bob.

I wouldn't be vehemently against having Ward as #1 next season, I doubt he is going to need to be as busy on the ball as under Garner which is where he seemed to be very weak. I would be wary of a poor spell at Sutton where both his shot stopping and handling did appear to be ropey at best.

Ward is a not a Number 1 GK
A quality GK, CB and strong Central midfield enforcer are what's needed to get out of this division.
Sutton saw Ward was not that good last year.
Even SL got that one right.

Not worth it for the 5 or 6 posts, the Wrexham thread constisted of about 30 posts.
