Title: Tuesday Night L1 Fixtures
Post by: Talk Talk on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 13:02:14
Bristol Rovers v Southampton19:45
Carlisle v Leeds United19:45
Charlton v Colchester19:45
Gillingham v Brighton19:45
Hartlepool v Stockport19:45
Huddersfield v Walsall19:45
Leyton Orient v Norwich19:45
Franchise v Oldham19:45
Southend v Brentford19:45
Tranmere v Wycombe19:45
Yeovil v Millwall19:45

I guess we have to hope that Carlisle and Yeovil do us a favour, much like Exeter did to Millwall and Leeds last night...

Carlisle seem to have the hoodoo against Lids. Ken Bates wanted this game tonight played behind closed does due to alleged incidences by celebrating fans after Carlisle's win in the JPT.

Carlisle have won 4, lost 1 of their last 5 home games, although their season home record is average. They do have a good record against leeds though so I'm quite optimistic of leeds dropping some points there.  Leeds do have the leagues 2nd best away record though.

Yeovil have won 2, lost 3 of their last 5 at home.  Millwall have won 4 drawn 1 of their last 5 away, although they only have the 6th best away record overall.

My predictions tonight:

leeds draw
millwall win
charlton draw

i reckon you could have that right mr todd.

We should all jinx it and put a double on leeds, millwall both winning.

I've put on a treble of Millwall, Charlton & Leeds so they guarantee's not all of them will win!  :D

I did Milwall and Lids to win, anyone who knows me realises this can only be good for Swindon.

I'm watching Colchester and Huddersfield tonight. For me it's more important that they drop points now so we can ensure a play-off spot. I can't see Millwall slipping up at all. Leeds might but we need both of them to slip up twice in the last 5 games.

Norwich losing!! Brighton winning...

Notts County were winning and getting promoted.

Meh, no point in worrying what we can't control. Just got to (try and) win our games and see what happens. Pressure can do funny things to a team.

It was out of our hands after Colchester. Our lot have to just try and keep up.

Automatic promotion is out of our hands.

Actually finishing in the top 6 is still in our hands.

If Colchester lose tonight we could confirm a play-off spot on Saturday. Don't think Rovers or Saints can catch us now.

We need Leeds to drop points. We can catch Millwall, as long as we're within 2 points of them for the final game.

Lets hope Rovers can get somehting out of their game. I had a sick feeling looking at the remaining fixtures today that Saints, with their run in and game in hand, could sneak into the play-offs.

As I've been saying for weeks, that's the scenario that scares me the most. I fancy our chances against all the other top teams in the playoffs, but not Southampton - they could easily turn us over. Sooner their season is over the better.

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 19:22:55
And Charlton

Not too fussed. As it stands only GD seperates that.

Also interesting that Norwich are losing. Leeds can go within 6 points of them with 4 to play. Certainly not clear cut.

We've done them twice and we'd do them again. Southampton would have massive momentum if they got in the play-offs, Leeds would just have their fans on their backs. Not to mention half of them would have their agents on speed dial - too many individuals, not enough team

Udders last home game is against Colchester, so that could decide the final play-off space.

Exeter have both Charlton and Udders at home in the run in.

you're a cunt.

***IF*** results stay the same tonight, ie Millwall losing then 3 wins and a draw might do us. Millwall might drop points at Huddersfield.

Although that completely ignores Leeds - if they win their last 4 then they will go up ahead of us if we pick up 10 points.

fuck worrying about leeds. If they go second they've done what they should have done at a canter - well done.

All we can do is stay in there and see what happens. No-one even expected play-offs at the start of the season, so lets worry about our form and how we prepare for the play-offs. We should be enjoying this! This is what it's all about.

forget Leeds. They're supposed to go up, we were supposed to stay up! there will be so many ups and downs in the last four games. everyone's nervous. If Leeds beat Charlton and Gills under this pressure then fair play to them for turning it around.

I'd rather have a day out at a ground we boast a 100 per cent record at anyway:D

And even if we lose in play-offs, what a season. Just enjoy it, forget worrying about everyone else.

How anyone can make any negative connotations out of this week's events is beyond me. We played well last night, we're in the mix with four games to go. Who expected this? No-one... edge of the seats stuff for all the right reasons. Magic.

Much as I'd obviously like to go up automatically, I do quite like the idea of having the chance to beat Leeds four times in one season

I want Huddersfield if we end up in the play-offs, or Colchester with a ref not afraid to use his cards. Charlton/Leeds/Millwall would all be trickier ties. Especially with Nicky fucking Forster at Charlton.

Although I think the preferred scenario is us automatic, Leeds via the play-offs. It'll be a tough season in the Championship next year and it'd be nice to start knowing we've got six points in the bag from the off :)

I'd prefer Saints to joins us through the play-offs. Their fans deserve it more, and still six points in the bag.

There is a huge difference between being disapointed we didn't win and being negative.

You can't possibly tell me you were happy with a point last night and even if you did, I wouldn't believe you.

Well, we might as well throw all of those late goals we conceded earlier in the season into the conversation because we'd be champions or close enough!

Nobody is pleased with a point against Exeter but it's done, it's history, bring on Walsall!

Ah no, i completely agree with you, Dave. I was so annoyed at dropping two points, but it's history now. It's just everything you have been posting ever since has been so negative, when it really shouldn't be. Yeah it's disappointing that we're no longer in the autos, but fuck me, what a season we're having! 5th in the play offs, when most of us expected mid-table mediocrity? Awesome!

Fuck it, if we don't go up, we'll win it next year!

Charlton would have to beat Norwich for that to happen but your point still stands.

Correct and apologies

It's very tight at the top, I'd say there may well be a few twists and turns yet

Also Poole Town clinched back to back Wessex League titles tonight with a 7-2 victory at forth placed Bournemouth Poppies

Why do southampton fans deserve promotion more than anyone else?

I went with some yeovil supporting mates to the millwall game last night and millwall didn't look anything special at all. Very unfortunate for yeovil, as they deserved all 3 points.

Still think leeds will drop more points and we could have 4 teams chasing 2nd spot come May 8th.

Let's just concentrate on winning our last 4 games and if it is to be the play-off's then we can be the in form team in the play-off's that nobody wants to play

Although if it is all done and dusted by the Millwal lgame I think I'd like to see Wilson rest a few for that game so they are fresh for the PO games

The potentially interesting scenario is if 3rd is the best we can hope for after 45 games, but with Millwall not certain of 2nd place.  Leeds and/or Charlton might take a fairly dim view if we started resting players at that point.

I would definitely rest players - why pick up injuries, suspensions etc. In fact I would start resting them after Saturday if we do not win that fixture.

As a lot of people have pointed out, it's still very close. We've dropped off but still have a shout if we win our remaining games, which is perfectly possible. Some very interesting fixtures remaining which could have a huge bearing on the final table:

Fri 16th April: Huddersfield vs Millwall

Saturday 17th April: Charlton vs Norwich

Saturday 24th April: Leeds vs Franchise

Saturday 1st May: Charlton vs Leeds

Saturday 8th May: Millwall vs Swindon, Leeds vs Bristol Rovers

Every team above us in the table features at least once in that list, so you never know!

right, we shouldn't give up hope of 2nd until chance really is gone.  More twists and turns to come.  Or more pants to come down.  But we want to be giving the spanking.

I was thinking a lot today about how massively well we've done this season.   Damn proud of the club, players, Wilson, Fitton and what's been achieved.   No way we are throwing in the towel.

I think what this does show is that is all still very unpredictable. two weeks ago you wouldn't have thought Leeds would win 3 on the bounce and after the Leeds game you felt we or Millwall wouldn't slip up again. We have come up against teams that have had to defend like Trojans to stop us scoring. It's looking like Leeds to win it unless they decide to throw it away again, would need them to drop points twice in 4 games for us to overtake. Our goal difference means we lose a point effectively but 3 out of 3 is what we probably need to get back in with contention.

In a strange way if we had to go to Millwall needing a win to be in with a shout for auto and Millwall only needing a point that it might suit our mindset to go for a win in a Liverpool vs Arsenal 1989 way. Can you imagine if the Gas got a result at Leeds to help us to auto, wouldn't that be nice of them!

Ha, I'll let her know you said that. You're probably right, to be fair. It's more superstition than anything else, I've been miserable all season and we've been awesome, so why change?
