Bit nippie for sandals. Unless (picking up on one of Batch's themes in an earlier thread) I wore them with thick hand-knitted socks (made from Tibetan yak's wool).

Isn't love beads what happens when fatbury's not quick enough with the tissues?

M
I can't quite work out how our original poster can argue that selling Coxy in the transfer window would get us less money than selling him in the summer.

Now, from everything I've seen it's generally accepted that clubs pay through the nose for players in the window, and obviously in January he'll have longer left on his contract than in the summer.

Which suggests that his arguement might be bollocks.

My arguement is that the longer Cox stays the more his value will become apparent as I expect him to score 30 a season. So at the end of this season with us he would be worth more and at the end of next season if still with us and with another 30 goals under his belt, we should be looking to get 5mill for him. It seems that people are coming closerto my valuation at the end of the 2009 season, and 2.5 mil value now has already been mentioned. IF he has two seasons at 30 goals a season with us I think we would be mad to let him go for less than 5mill. Does anybody disagree?

I'm not sure Roy Keane is looking for another striker just yet.

He would have next to nothing of his contract left by then so the price would presumably start to drop.

Where are you getting the 5mil figure from RedRedRobin? Can you come up with any examples of other players at our level going for anywhere near that amount? I think 2.5 is pretty unrealistic as a figure now, even if we got lucky and had a few desperate teams bidding it out in January.

The more realistic scenario is that a club makes a decent bid, cox kicks up a fuss saying he wants the move, we sell him.

Has a league 1 player ever gone for £3m let alone £5m?   The highest I can think of is Maynard to city for £2.2m. Can anyone top that?

Proven Championship goalscorers move to the premiership (normally Sunderland) for £5m-£6m.  See Chopra,  Jones, Nugent

I agree ith RRR, my take too. Cox has said he doesn't want to go, he wants to go up to the championship with us. So lets tie him in with a 5 year deal, & not let him go unless we are offered sufficient to basically replace a whole team at our level.
Barring injury, which you can insure against he should be worth more the longer he stays.

We would get 2 million tops for Cox I reckon.
