It appears I've got an IRQ conflict.

[Conflicts/Sharing]

Resource   Device
IRQ 9   Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
IRQ 9   NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT
IRQ 9   Creative SB Live! series(WDM)
IRQ 9   NETGEAR FA311/312 PCI Adapter #2
IRQ 9   Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442
IRQ 9   Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443
IRQ 9   Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444
IRQ 9   Multimedia Audio Controller

I'm fucked if I know what it means like, but it's not very good apparently.

Hmm, this could be a long night - cheers for the link.

I got an email from OCUK today saying they've just received the items I sent back for testing. I sent them last Thursday and they were signed for the next day via Amtrak, so it's been there nearly a week and they haven't noticed DESPITE me phoning up and making sure it's there - which they originally said it wasn't until he went to look for it - and that it'll take 7-10 working days before they sort it.

The order was placed over two weeks ago, the money was taken from my account two weeks ago as of tomorrow. Meanwhile, I've had all sorts of problems with my old PC and have spent most of the time faffing about with it. I hate the bastard things.

Are you actually having conflicts, or do they just appear to be conflicts?

XP uses ACPI to create an almost infinate number of IRQs, and can stack many devices on one IRQ. If its not enabled in bios it creates conflicts, very commonly with the soundcard and graphics card.

Are you running XP? If you are in may be that you don't have ACPI or APIC shit turned on or enabled in your bios. Often by doing that, and sometimes unfortunately formating, the problem is solved.

XP will install as for an ACPI computer by default regardless of whether it is enabled. If you are getting loads of blue screens and crackles, buzzing and the likes on your soundcard, then the PC is not ACPI enabled as the graphics sound card stacking has this effect.

If acpi is enabled, and the conflicts are occuring, it may be a good idea to install xp in standard pc config. To check if ACPI is enabled, right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, view, devices by type, open computer and it should say "acpi uniprocessor pc or something similar.

If it is enabled and its not helped, disable it in bios and reinstall XP hitting F5 when it says "press F6 to install third party SCSI & Raid storage drivers" and select a standard PC. This is rare though, as ACPI generally is better than standard pc, but sometimes ACPI can have problems.

I'm on 2K, I'm not having any major problems but since upgrading to a 6800GT from a Geforce 4 Ti4200 I've noticed a decrease in performance within games as opposed to an increase, I orginally assumed that this was because my CPU/RAM was bottlenecking it but I'm not so sure. According to 3DMark, my 6800GT is in my PCI slot and not the AGP. I'm confused about it all, think I might format today.

is the graphics card PCI-X? might be why its slowing down because your old motherboard ain't quick enough
