Zone alarm is quite good

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Nice little program that will route out all of those programs (including hidden) that run when you boot up the old PC.

If your being re-directed to the same site, have a scan on that site and see if there is any info link, sometimes you can uninstall the software from there.  If not do a google with something like "site name" re-direct, you will usually find some poor chap with the same prob and usually a solution will follow.

spybot? i should tell you that it needs to run on the next restart, say yes and it should be able to get rid of all the cancer.

try running adaware too, between the two of them those programs can get rid of everything.

Cheers chaps, i'll have a scout.  Problem is OF, two spyware doctors and adaware can't get rid of this one piece of shit.  Everything else has gone.

I had a real nasty next gen spyware program a month or so back that on boot would clone it's self to random locations with new file names.

The actual spyware would then download all of the usual spyware that adaware and the like can get rid off.  The bastard thing then corrupts the spybot search & destroy program!

Took me about 4 hours to finally get rid of it.
