TOWN are hoping for a ‘bumper’ response to an initiative designed to boost support for the proposed County Ground redevelopment.

The club have joined forces with the Swindon Advertiser to launch a new car sticker which will be handed out to fans at tomorrow’s game with Doncaster Rovers.

Five thousand ‘Say Yes to the County Ground Redevelopment’ stickers have been printed and they will be available both from the County Ground and the Adver reception.

Town officials have made no secret of the need to build a new stadium and revenue-generating facilities in order for the club to enjoy a healthy future.

Town, supporters groups and the Adver have all launched campaigns to stress the importance of a club at the heart of the community and the car stickers are a way of getting the message ‘mobile’.

Lee Peacock, Ricky Shakes and Charlie Comyn-Platt were on hand to help launch the scheme yesterday.

Club press officer Chris Tanner said: “With Town currently bidding for a ‘Say Yes’ from the Council with regards to the redevelopment of the County Ground, supporters can now show their support for the scheme, whether at home, on the road or at work.

“It’s about making as many people aware of the situation as possible and how important this is for the club. It’s about building momentum and that’s what the ‘Say Yes’ campaign is about.

“The Swindon Advertiser have partnered with us by sponsoring the cost of printing and the club would like to thank them for their generous support and cooperation.”

Sheryl Crouch, The Adver’s brand and marketing manager said: “We hope the car stickers will really capture the imagination and that supporters will proudly display them.

“It’s about demonstrating how important and beneficial it is for the town of Swindon to have a thriving football club at the heart of the community.”

The Adver’s promotions team will be giving out the stickers at tomorrow’s match, ably assisted by mascot Alfie the Alligator.

The launch comes just a week after councillors joined Town officials on a visit to Reading’s Madejski Stadium to see a successful example of how a club’s fortunes can be transformed.

Discussions between the club and the council continue.
