well, everyone knows we are crap at One Dayers...why?

imo, i put it down to not having had a strong team for long enough. We haven't got a core team for one dayers like tests. if so, whatshould our team be? its a hard one.

its not that we haven't got a good ODI side (see performances against Aus) it's just that we're very reliant on a core of players and if we they are injured we severely miss them

i still expect us to do well at the world cup

as for our side:

1 M Trescothick
2 A Strauss
3 M Vaughan
4 I Bell
5 K Pietersen
6 A Flintoff
7 P Collingwood
8 G Jones
9 A Giles
10 S Jones
11 S Harmison

Super sub: Anderson or Blackwell

I'd prefer to have Anderson or Blackwell (dependent on pitch) in the side but at the minute I can't decide which one of the top 7 doesn't deserve inclusion

no because hoggard is a complete joke in ODIs and Collingwood isn't good enough for Tests but is a class act in ODIs

whilst keeping the same core of players in both sides is vital, since when has any side in the history of the game selected exactly the same side in both Test and ODIs??

But countries like Australia and SA can get away with seperate ODI and Test sides, we have never succesfully done it.

isn't that because of the players we've got

why can they get away with it and we can't?

I would like to see Jimmy Anderson play a bit more.
For some reason I like him more than Harmison  :-))(

its our batting. we play like "cavalliers" all the time thinking we can just score 300 plus every innings. in other words we slog and it just doesnt get you anywhere in one day cricket

but that doesn't explain why we should pick the same side in Tests and ODIs

you should pick the best XI players in one dayers and the best XI in Tests

i think the core is the most important, these players for both tests and ODI's are:

Trescothick
Strauss
Vaughan
Bell
Pietersen
Flintoff
Jones
S.Jones
Harmison

I think those players will always be or should be selected.

Other players could be Blackwell, Anderson, Giles (could easily be core), Prior (WK) Collingwood.

This is Johno's opinion, not fact so you can't say he is wrong!

I think that bar Hoggard, the team doesn't really need to change much for ODIs. Obviously you have Gough, Solanki and others to come in but we don't seem to have enough TOP players to create seperate teams.

Of course I can because the number of appearances he's made and that he is a certainty in the Test and ODI make him a core player.
