I have one George Best story that always makes me smile.
He was in the states, Vegas I think. After winning $$$ he called room service. An English lad brings his champagne order to the room. On opening the door he sees George Best, a loads of cash, and a miss world waiting and says "Mr Best, where did it all go wrong?"

What a guy..... Yeah he said ''I spent all my money on drink, women and fast cars. I squandered the rest'' Pele said George Best was the greatest player he ever saw play.

The epitomy of a flawed genius, like Garrincha, just think how good he'd have been if he'd had a full length career... Frighteningly good.

I'll refrain from my normall piss taking and outright abuse to say that he was one of the most gifted footballers of all time.
Mattboyslim is right to point out the similarities between him and Garrincha. watched a fascinating documentary on him.

First saw Best play in 64 , as part of the ManUre side that we met over two legs in the FA Youth Cup final ....crowd of over 17000.
Don Rogers put us ahead but Best equalised.....I think he also played for Fulham at the CG in 77, when we beat them 3-0 in the FA Cup in front of over 23000, but I ddin't go to the game.
Remember hearing a story of how fellas in Belfast would go to watch street football, because the word had gone around about this kid who could do great things with the ball.
