Has been hacked, the bastards.

I've been getting loads of wierd e-mails in the last few days which I've supposedly sent to other people re 2nd offer buying of items, so I forwarded them on to e-bay. Then got an e-mail this morning saying that they'd got to know my password and used my user name to send these messages!

They've restored my account and I've changed the password to something so remote I hope nobody will ever guess it.

Luckily they didn't buy/sell anything on my name. What I want to know is how did they guess my password. Yes, it was sort of linked to my user name, but it could have been any Swindon Town player, and it wasn't an obvious one at all (it really wasn't).

I'll be checking it every day now to make sure it's ok.

It doesn't show that I've bought anything thank god!

It's more the amount of offers I've sent to people re 2nd chance items etc, E-bay have given me advice on what to do if people come back to me re this, and basically said refer them to e-bay.

Luckily I kept all the e-mails.

Have you had an email from ebay asking you to update your details and completed a form?

That's the most common method and the oldest trick in the book.  Scamsters send you an email from a fakemail address that looks like it's come from ebay.  It will ask you to update/confirm your details for any number of reasons and to click the url.

You hit the link , are re-directed to a 3rd party site that's not ebay and bang once you fill in your details theyre sent off to scamsters.

The other reason may be if your machine is seriously hacked into.  I'd run a load of virus checks and the like.

I'd check your paypal account and change the password while you're at it.

I thought that at first Dazzza, but they told me to change it all through the e-bay site through my account details etc which I did. I.E. change password, hints etc. And they also advised me to select this myself, they were no links to click on etc so it seemed real (for once!).

E-bay had also blocked my password so I'm fairly confident it was from them. I'm just glad they didn't change my e-mail once they got in otherwise the person who did it could have changed the password as well and I would have been buggered. I suppose they didn't want to risk me finding out.

Don't use Pay-pal so that's all right, about to do a virus check though, good idea.

Only the usual stuff, emails from PayPal or ebay asking to verify details on a 3rd party site.

It's an old, old trick I used to tit about with years back to get into Hotmail accounts.

The other common one tends to come from Romanians, Nigerians and the odd China man asking to purchase items immediately with a hacked PayPal account or Western Union.

Strange one that Oxford they coming through ebay?
