Ignore
« on: Wednesday, November 16, 2005, 16:00:05 »

Don't know if you remember me telling you, but back in April I went to Brighton and one thing led to another and I ended up in Hospital.  The next day I taped someone's rear bumper at a roundabout, who claimed the whole rear of his Volvo was twisted outta shape, despite my Corsa being in prestine condition after the accident.

However, no claim came through and when I rang the insurance some 2 months later they told me he had not bothered claiming and after 6 months the claim would disappear.  As things stood, I would maintain my no claims bonus hopefully getting it down to under £1k.

However, when I've gone to renew the insurance, it's up to £1.6k.  The bastard did claim back in May, before I rang the insurance and they told me no claim was put in.  They paid out £2k (probably as much as the car was worth!!) and never notified me or anything.  Is this legal?  Do I have any leg to stand on?!  Just as I was getting things back on track....  Argh!  The cunt!   :x

tut...Carry a disposable camera in your car and always photograph your accident(s) including damage to your car and theirs.
That way you could've had him done for insurance fraud claiming £2k of damage for a small accident.

As it happens you don't have much to stand on... you did hit him and he was right to claim. You've lost your no-claims and you're not getting it back.

One thing you can throw your toys out of the pram about is the porfessional nature of your insurance company. Make an official complaint to them (in writing) and cc it to the Financial Ombudsman. But it won't bring your no claims back...

Quote from: "Walrus"
However, when I've gone to renew the insurance, it's up to £1.6k.

Never renew directly or immediately anyway, here's my case:

About four years back Endsleigh quoted £800 for insurance renewal. I checked with Directline (the easiest website) and they quoted £650. I then phoned Endsleigh and said "I've had another quote from Direct Line for £610 but I'd like to stay at Endsleigh, can you beat it?"....."Hmmmm..........£607?" said Endsleigh, "fine" said I.

The next year, Endsleigh quoted £780 (despite another years no claims), this time I didn't bother checking with Direct Line and just said
NR - "I've been offered it for £540 through DL and I'm thinking of moving to them"......
Endsleigh - "Hmmmmmm......if I could offer you a better quote would you stay"........"Maybe" said I.
Endsleigh - "I can't beat it, but I can do you £561 plus a guaranteed courtsey car" - "Done" said NR.

Whatever they quote you for a renewal, just say you've had a better quote - but keep it sensible (about 10% less per year based on another years no claims)

Never listen to that "This offer is only valid today" shit either - chances are it is cheaper tomorrow.

It winds me up  :x  - insurance companies get away with millions stuffed in their pockets every year and we suffer - be smart and do them at their own game  Cool
