downloading episodes of tv shows?

why wouldn't it be just as legal as recording them from your tv?

Recording tv shows is illegal without prior consent, so i guess downloading is as well.

Tivo only exception as you pay a fee

Nope I'm wrong but those european twats wanna change it anyway. The main thing is if it is for personal use. Sharing/downloading isn't so i guess this is why it cant be legal.
