Really should be doing more to attract new fans.

Swindon has a population of 200,000 and is the fastest growing town in the UK. Yet at home games we get under 5000 and a lot of those are from outside Swindon. Why don't the club do something to attract the people in Swindon?? Letting schools in for free for example, or even putting posters up around the town.

I agree Tails - i heard this raised at the fans forum and Mark Devlins kop out anwer was that they have got coaches in schools but mentioned nothing of advertising or anything like that.

A few billboards advertising the club wouldn't cost too much would it? We could make it look really exciting and once people see a few games they'll be hooked.

The clubs only effective marketing to Swindon people comes from the Adver. They do the bare minimum.

In the past Town fans used to make their own efforts to promote the team in their own work places and clubs. But that has died because the ticketing pricing is simply too embaressing to explain to an STFC novice.

most people in swindon though have come from other areas of the country and are living in swindon onoy because of there job.  therefore they already support other teams.

Thats become more of a barrier with the increase in televised matches. In the past people used to go along to their local teams and get hooked on them. Not anymore.

Even with all the people thats moved here that still leaves a massive population who have always lived here.

And you do have to accept that the product is currently poor.

Sad truth is that trying to attract people to football nowadays is nearly impossible, the vast majority would rather sit at home in the warm and watch games on the telly without having to spend money on tickets, travel, food, programmes etc.

The people we do need to get into the County Ground are the kids who are unfortunately guilty of the above, you have to admit that at 10 years old and faced with the choice of watching shit football in the middle of winter or being a Chelsea fan like all your friends and watching them from the comfort of your living room, 99% of kids are going to choose Chelsea.

So how do you get these kids through the doors? It's £9 for accompanied kids anywhere in the ground so price isn't as much of a barrier as it might be.

your right there sonic, it is going to be alot harder with the amount of footy on tv nowadays. i think i must be the 1% then who don't go and support the big teams when your younger....even though, i did use to like to see liverpool do well! (as they were the first team i ever watched on tv)

£4 in the Arkells Family Enclosure bit as well.  To be fair, the kids you can get with promotions etc (at leats make them turn up as part of a school).  The tough bit for us is convincing the adults to turn up now that they've all sloped off to bars to spend the £30 odd on beer watching 2 games on a Sunday rather then the CG

Last nite Sunderland charged £5 for all adults and £1 for kids to watch them play Arsenal in the Carling cup knowing that both sides would be understrength

Result = crowd of 47000!!!!

Not sure it would work at Swindon but I still think £15 for Boston is too much .. £10 in the Town End would have been good too!

Should be £1 a kid when accompanied by one adult EVERY game!

i remember the £5 offer for adults and £1 for kids in the Town End against Bury in 02. we got 7500 for that game. says it all really.
