After winning a Pro Evo tournie last night with 4 other (novice) pro evo players, my confidence was high and I thought I was getting good at the game.  I've just played my flatmate (he was Italy, I was Spain), and he beat me: 3-0, 2-0, 3-2, 2-0, then he changed to Austrailia and I was brazil and he spanked me 3-0 again.  I'm really depressed now.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get good at Pro Evo quickly? I've started a league as West Ham on 3 star and draw 0-0 or lose either 1-0 or 2-0 usually.  Should I change to 2 star until I get a bit better or stay in the deep end with 3 star?

Im finding PES5 much harder than PES4, i started a Master League with Rangers and drew the first 3 games 0-0 and then i finally beat River Plate 1-0.

I'm doing OK on 4 star at the moment, it is tricky but I find passing it around and keeping possession helps. I like having different formations available and really quick wingers aswell but thats just me.. I made a Swindon team and managed to get the kit looking pretty good aswell.

I scored an awsome goal against my flatmate earlier (even though he still beat me), played the through ball, then flip-flapped the last defender with Ronaldino, then finished with a cheeky chip over the keeper

I think you should go straight to 5*, that will get you good. Try playing more defensively if you're conceding a lot. I also found that if you stick with the same team for a while you get to know how to exploit the strengths of their formation.

One of the most important things when defending is switching to the right defender at the right time. I tend to counter attack very quickly and just try and set up easy scoring chances with well timed through balls and crosses. Practice makes you good.

The other thing to bear in mind is that just playing the game against the computer is easier than against people as you can't predict what they will do next. I found the best way to 'Get Good' was playing online on my Xbox. I believe the online facility is now available to PS2 gamers on PES5.

I scored a 30yrd corker earlier with Ricksen, picked it up deep kept running with the ball and then screamed it in the bottom Right hand corner. I made sure i saved it.

I've scored a few beauts with Baptista, one swivling volley on his left from the edge of the box under pressure - it was nice!

I'm not finding it too hard on 5* really, just wish the first touch was better, and as Spuddy says, the bloody refs!

You can hardly tackle in this game without giving away a free kick! Invariably the computer scores from its direct free kicks!

Oh, free kicks, scored an absolute pearler with Juninho for Brazil, right in the top crner, keeper had no chance.  Aimed for a spot in the wall where there was a short fella and nailed it!
