if i want to format my c:\ can i just copy the contents onto my z:\ external hard drive then wack it all back on, would that work? or would that kind of ruin the point of it?

you can copy your my docs and stuff like that (music etc) but all programs etc will have to be re-installed from scratch

Depends what your going to copy over, are you talking about files and stuff or are you talking about trying to do the whole thing XP included?
THe former would work fine but your going to have to re-install XP and all applications and games again the 2nd option is a fucking nightmare that's not worth considering and would like you say probably ruin any point in doing so in the first place.
What's the problem anyway white boy?

I think there is a program I had a while back called WinShampoo that gives everything a good cleaning out.
Like a bowl of all Bran and Prunes for your PC.

If you look half way down the link you posted you will see a Belkin one for 14ukp which is what you need in addition to the wireless router that is pictured with the PCMCIA card. NMH
