Whereas the sisterhood used to circle the handbags while 'I will survive' was belting out.

Freebies handed out by Golddiggers and The Blasters, presumably because ticket sales were slow. Then Elvis Costello announced he was doing a warm-up gig there on the same night. Rammed.

That's how it was in the early 80s at the Brunel rooms!
Brunel rooms in the 80's was ace. Sleeping it off in the car park before driving home to Newbury not so ace.

I think I caught the very tail end of that - late 80s/early 90s. I remember the Amphi was where you went for a quick snog when the music in the main club was a bit too banging. I also have this memory - and I still don't know if it's just in my head because it seems so old-fashioned now - of groups of lads in suits (I'm not making this up) up in Old Town for pre-club beers in the late 1980s. And then walking down Victoria Hill en masse in to town mid-evening before Harding's opened. I'd only just started drinking back then, so getting served anywhere was a bonus. It was in the days when all the pubs were in Old Town...a few years before the rash of chain pubs (Yates', the Slug & Lettuce, Mondo Mondo etc.) opened in the town centre.

Smells like teen spirit always gave the bouncers something to do in diggers I used to say I was from Derry Hill to get into diggers, for some time people from Calne weren't allowed in To be fair I left one night to see some lads I knew scrapping with the doormen

When I was 16/17 I had a weekend job at Hygrade in Chippenham. 0600-1400 on Saturdays/Sundays and despite the decent pay, I dreaded it all through the week.
They used to have the radio on the factory speakers and there are a collection of songs from that time which were on GWRs heavy rotation. Almost 20 years on and I still shudder/experience flashbacks whenever I hear those songs....
They Include:
'Keep on Moving' by Five 'Spinning Around' by Minogue 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' by Spiller 'It Feels So Good' by Sonique 'Music' by Madonna 'Out of Your Mind' by Truesteppers 'Beautiful Day' by U2 'I'm Outta Love' by Anastacia 'Babylon' by David Gray 'Fill Me In' by Craig David 'I Turn to You' by Mel C 'Life is a Rollercoaster' by Ronan Keating 'Breathless' by The Corrs 'Black Coffee' by All Saints 'Whole Again' by Atomic Kitten 'Lady (Hear Me Tonight)' by Modjo 'Rock DJ' by Robbie Williams 'Don't Stop Moving' by S Club 7 'It Wasn't Me' by Shaggy 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' Jennifer Lopez

The thing is Rich, I bet you know the lyrics to every single one as well! For similar reasons, an old workplace used to have Classic Gold Gem on all the time. Now i'm a fan of some classic older tunes but when the playlist has about 12 songs and barely changes...well certain had my fill of Black is Black by Los Bravos for ever. Likely played about 3 times an hour or at least it felt like it. I know all the words to that too.

On a similar note, I used to work in Tempo electrical superstore on Greenbridge. They never used to go in for Christmas stuff but one year we got load of decorations sent from head office, and a 2 hour long CD that was on repeat from the end of November until the middle of January. That CD was bullshit.
