Two I use on the regular are Haskin's in Wroughton (they do courtesy car if available) which is handy or Greenbridge MOT center.
Never had an issue with either and both are honest as they come.

Frans aka Advanced Cars is station road. Give him a call first though. He is only going in when there is work booked in.

Another vote for Frans. Only garage owner I've met that's actively talked me out of spending money.

I shudder when I see or hear the word ‘cheap’ in the o text of someone wanting something.

Frans did a lot of work for me and on my company vehicle and I have no complaints about the standard of work -not sure on pricing.  I now use Kall-Fit on Elgin Ind Est, never let me down and pricing as competitve as anywhere.  Marcio and his wife Daniella run it.

Is a ratatatatatat machine gun sound and no engine turnover the sign of a starting motor needing replacing?

Hmm, a well known cycle retailer has been known to recommend exactly that, as a result of their 'free' battery check. Or they might suggest you 'need' a new alternator.

The RAC told me that but I knew the starter was on it's way out. It is draining all of the power from the battery when you try to start the car.
I have now found a mechanic that my dad knows and he is doing it for cost & beer money; unfortunately I have a car that has an expensive starter motor.
