Any techs who can help with a laptop issue?

One of the kids has a windows 7 laptop that he was given by an uncle, who got it from work after it was retired on a new for old lease.

It has worked fine for about 18 months but after a power cut has come up with an error message on booting that I can't get past.

The error message is B1InitialiseLibrary failed 0xc00000bb

I have tried all of the bits suggested by Google except trying to boot off of a windows restore USB.

My problem is that I don't have one, and don't have a product key to download one.

Any suggestions?

Bin it or get windows 10. Seriously, Windows 7 support ends in January so will be prone to attacks.

The laptop will get replaced next year with a new one for Uni.

For now I need a restore drive just to be able to boot it

Had a quick Google, as I'm sure you already have.

Doesn't look like a quick fix, more playing around with a few suggestions for fixes which is a bit tricky to explain here unless you are happy to create a boot usb, etc.

You don't need a product key to download the iso, download the download tool and follow the instructions for your version of windows.

If you can't do anything, can I recommend Green Machine, based in Whittonditch between Aldbourne and Hungerford. An excellent small company who  clean and recondition ex-business computers and donate many of them to people in need. (They were going to support STFC in the Community, sending some to Zambia, when I was involved with FITC. If you want to follow up i can let you have a contact if you PM me.

My mate is retired and of a certain age and is looking for a new laptop. Principally to play movies, vid clips and surf the net. Oh, along with ordering shit products from amazon, QVC etc. Odd email. Needs Microsoft office. Apparently would like a 14” screen. If I said money is no object I do not mean the fucker is loaded but budget is not really what he is looking for. I guess something to last until he dies. All sensible recs appreciated.

Get a better mate who doesn't take the piss out of him on an internet forum for being "of a certain age" who orders "shit products from Amazon, QVC, etc" and calls him a "fucker" for a start.

That would be funny if you didn’t make yourself sound like a sour old git without a sense of humour.

Now I understand the ‘Exiled’ bit, probably for the best.
