Author Topic: Windows 10 Upgrade - Wifi Connection Lost  (Read 12184 times)

I've upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 this evening.  I now appear to have lost the ability to access the internent via wi-fi.  When I click on Network and Internet, it says 'We couldn't find wireless devices on this PC'.

Troubleshooting confirms 'There might be a problem with the driver for the WiFi adapter'.  I've tried the administrator repairs, but it's not fixed the problem.

Can anyone help?  If not, I'll just restore back to Windows 8.

Go to the manufacturers website and download the wireless driver. You will need to plug the laptop into the router or use another PC.

Only found out the other day you cant upgrade if you have an OEM licence, the twisters.

Are you sure? I've updated my Vaio and that was running OEM Win7.

all my pre installed windows 7 and 8.1 PCs have upgraded, pretty sure they are all OEM.

I've had the same problem a couple of times when upgrading/reinstalling windows. Had to plug in straight to the router/modem with an Ethernet cable to apply the correct drivers for the WiFi etc. Sounds like windows 10 hasn't learned from past problems. Thanks Microshaft.

Only found out the other day you cant upgrade if you have an OEM licence, the twisters.
If you are running Enterprise then there is no free upgrade.

Are you sure you've upgraded?  We spent ages trying on multiple devices, and it seemed to but when you check status it has gotten stuck but doesn't tell you, Only thing I found it did was disable windows updates. Happy to be proved wrong though.

If you are running Enterprise then there is no free upgrade.

Thanks all, but I've given up and done a system restore back to Windows 8.1.  I followed all instructions and nothing worked.  According to manufacturers site, I had the correct driver.  Waste of an evening.

And its def not oem? Prob some suck eggs here, but for others maybe reading, did the licence come when you bought the machine, or did you get separately? As the issues joteddy has, are ones we've come across with OEM.

I know some might not know the difference between Windows versions, but I'm familiar with the difference between OEM, Retail, Enterprise etc.

Desktop was retail (non-OEM) Windows 8.1 Pro N. License bought separately by me. Laptop was OEM Windows 7 Home Premium. License came with the machine.

AFAIK, there should be absolutely no difference in upgrading retail vs. OEM versions to Windows 10.

@sutton - I definitely have OEM on three devices updated to win 10. two updated flawlessly, one got stuck on ', checking status and needed a bit of manual twiddling to kick the process off.
