I don't get vertigo - done lots of stuff recently where vertigo would have been an issue and not a flutter. Just cliffs. I blame my dad for finding it funny pretending to push me off them as a child. Damaged goods.
I do get vertigo, and it's a strange old thing. So for example, I lived on the 12th floor of tower for a couple of years with no problem whatsoever, however I would get an attack looking at my kids doing things at height, because they didn't have it. So the second hand vertigo you get from watching films etc.

Think I have a form of vertigo.
Don't mind being up in a tall building but I can't look over the edge downwards without going all wobbly kneesed.

Stop calling it vertigo you bunch of cunts.
Fear of heights is called Acrophobia. Vertigo is a kind of dizziness.

You are correct, I suffer occassionally from Vertigo but also get Acrophobia, they are very different...blame that on Alfred Hitchock.

But don't you usually get Vertigo if you have Acrophobia? I presumed that was why they were colloquially interchangable.

Its not the fear of heights that get me, its the fear of falling. I can go up the CN tower and jump up and down on the glass floor, no problem. Put me within 5 feet of a cliff edge - sweaty palms and an uncomfortable feeling soon appear.
Oh and I agree with Samdy re: spiders. Gangly legged creepy bastards.

Nope, not normally, They are very very different. Vertigo is a nausiating dizness when you stand quickly and nearly fall over again, very similar to being pissed. Acrophobia is a fear and slight wobbly leg feeling when standing too close to an edge that is high up along with a little dizziness and fear. Its not the fear of heights, its not the fear of falling...its the fear of hitting the ground that gets me.

Can someone put up that footage of the radio mast workers in America who climb up around 1600ft? The last bit when they climb the mast is awesome.

We're off on holiday in a few weeks and the wife is absolutely petrified about flying, especially the take off and landing.
For me, that's the best bit!

For nervous flyers there is only one real prescription - half a Valium and half a bottle of spirits, taken the hour before takeoff in the airport bar.

I'm a nervous flyer and can confirm this really, really helps! Try getting her to read during take off and landing as well, something to take her mind off it.
