I once had a pub lunch in the Merlin, it was quite tasty, but I could taste the frozen residue on the onion rings and chips, but this is the way of pub food unless you have a ploughman's and then getting some decent bread rolls is a issue

My vast experience of pub food in these part would lead my to suggest The plough inn in Wanborough serves the best ploughman's, as I am aware they use fresh produce from local farms

I can second the Plough at Wanbrough. I would recommend their homemade Chilli COn Carne with a large slab of locally produced bread. Lovely.
