Looks like EFL clubs could be set for a windfall from the PL’s new TV deal.
‘The English Premier League has agreed to UK government demands to provide more funding to lower division teams in return for clearance to roll over its existing £5bn broadcasting contract with Sky, BT and Amazon.
The 20 member clubs in English football’s top division approved a deal on Wednesday designed to protect their fragile finances that have been hit hard in the pandemic, according to people familiar with the talks.
The Premier League wants to sell its domestic television rights covering the three seasons between 2022 and 2025 to its existing partners: Sky, BT and Amazon. The new deal would be on roughly similar terms to those in the current deal that was signed in 2018, according to people with knowledge of the talks.
That move is a marked departure from past tactics of pitting broadcasters against each other in regular Premier League rights auctions, helping to stoke the steady inflation of its multibillion-pound television deals.
England’s top tier clubs were keen to accept the government-brokered compromise as the new media contract guarantees TV income over the coming years, at a time when European broadcasters are reining in spending on sports rights.
But the deal needed approval from the government, which could block a private sale of TV rights on competition grounds.
According to people familiar with the discussions, ministers have, in principle, agreed to approve the Premier League’s plan as long as it also includes more money for lower division teams which have been hit even harder by the coronavirus crisis.
At a meeting held on Wednesday, Premier League clubs agreed to an additional £100m for lower league teams, on top of the around £140m provided in so-called “solidarity payments” each season, a person familiar with the matter said. Details of the broadcast contract could be announced as early as Thursday, another person said.’

All in the presentation of numbers isn't it. See this. https://twitter.com/SamWallaceTel/status/1392738983130578948So its really 25m a year, and its for the bottom two leagues, plus the National league system, womens football etc etc. So a club like ours is being bought off for what? 100k a year?

So in summary the value of TV rights has peaked and the PL were shit scared how much they would be able to get if the new deal went to the open market

Given what's happened in Germany, where they lost 10% off the previous deal, and France where the deal collapsed and they ended up with less than half, understandably so

Whilst you have to admire what Leicester have achieved recently you have to think back to 1993 with a pang of sadness and see where the 2 sides in that final are in the football pyramid now. Polar opposites.

Begs the question. Why was the Final the only game to use VAR? If it couldn’t be used in previous rounds due to clubs outside the PL not having the facilities, it seems a tad unfair to use it in the Final.

Even if you just go back to 2009. Both in L1.

When you look at the big teams in the championship you soon realise we wouldn't be able to compete

I've not enjoyed Football much for quite a while. Today's FA cup final bucked that trend. Refreshingly entertaining and was great to see a team really want that today. Deserved winners.

Yeah, has been for years. Their last 21 years has been pretty amazing. They’ve won both domestic cups and the top three tiers.
