What is the best (cheapest) option....
a) Insure on our policy as a named driver b) He gets his own insurance

Google a few as some now will insure them cheap if they have a black box fitted to the car or they agree not to go out at night.

He gets his own insurance, put you as a named driver to reduce price. Cheapest legal way of doing it and works out cheaper in the long run because he starts building up NCB as long as he stays accident free.
Aviva and Churchill was the cheapest for my lad at the time but do ask the lemur

make sure its a small engine car. i've been driving for 10 years and back then you could get away with a 1.4 and not get raped. These days from what i understand you need to be driving a poxy 1l.

I've been driving for 25 years I need to buy myself a second car and I don't want a small engine one. If he gets his own car it'll be a 1.0 or 1.2 (group one or two), but if it costs him a fortune to insure then I'll look to share a small engine motor with him, hence the question.

Internet forums weren't prevalent 18 years ago, else this thread could have been avoided.

My 17 year old son used his mums policy to get his own insurance on his mums car for £ 100 a month, that was with Churchill.
