Does everyone download the updates?
I reformated my pc the other week and I still haven't done the updates yet. The only reason is, that Service pack 2 I thought slowed it down.
Does everyone updates theres? Am I risk getting virus's if I don't?

Windows Update is now officially a fucking mess. Microsoft have changed the way it's done, it now uses something called BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer System - or BULLSHIT for short) which uses all sorts of weird and wonderful TCP ports to do its stuff. If you use any sort of firewall then you are retrospectively buggered. Give up. Go home. Get Linux or a life instead.

Service Pack 2 is apparently absolutely dogshit and causes more problems than it solves. So a computer geek told me.

Anyone got any ideas why my dell laptop won't resume from standby. It turns back on but the screen stays black. I think something has gone wrong and the keyboard/mouse are disabled when in standby and do not turn on when the computer wakes up. This means the screen stays black Any ideas? Sounds like something messed up in the bios, but i can't find an option

Sounds like you have pressed the funny blue keys that turn it on to "External Monitor Mode". Have a fiddle with them until the LCD screen comes back on.

Tried that. I think I've answered my own question though, there's an option to allow a mouse to wake windows from standby - i bet it's got disabled :-))(

Tiny hidden reset button in the back panel? Even if you hit it you can usually get it back together again with a bit of frigging..?

Oh sorry - I can reset the thing and I now avoid standby after trying it a couple of times. Not on my laptop now so can't try anything at the moment but I will fix it if I can be bothered.

Turn standby mode off? Buy a portable Honda generator on castors to drag around? Always pulls the girlies I have found ("you want to plug your hair straighteners in HERE? Oh ok, i have just the thing...")

MSN keeps disconnecting and reconnecting me though, which is a bugger. I've taken it off and reinstalled it and it still fucks up.
