I didn't think Holly looked confident for any of her jumps tonight - perhaps big-stage nerves? She's a great talent and certainly has potential for medals at future championships. 6th in the Olympics at age 20 is not too shabby really.

Looked like thr pressure was getting to her. Although the wind clearly was troubling her, in a mental sense at the very least. Hopefully she'll bounce back - plenty of time to get it right!

Maybe it's just me, but I reckon the athletes getting upset at only getting a silver or bronze need a few well placed slaps.
Seems disrespectful to all the athletes that have worked their bollocks off for the last few years knowing they had absolutely zero chance of getting a medal. And in the case of our handball teams, for example, knowing they were most likely going to get thrashed every time they took the court.
I can understand them being upset but they could be a bit more careful about what they say and how it comes across.

I see your point but only half agree. They are usually interviewed straight after the event so not had time to adjust emotionally. I don't think considering other athletes have made the same sacrifices and not gained a medal is at the forefront of their mind. Also they have basically sacrificed every moment of the last 4 years of their lives for that one moment, no going out, not seeing much of partners, friends. Eating the right things at the right time. Every day. 4 years. And then in their eyes they fucked it up because they were capable of better. Sacrifices of sport over loved ones but not the reward they did it for. I'm sure in the cold light of day they'll see what we see - any medal is a bloody good one.

Totally agree with you there Batch. They had to go into their events thinking that they not only could but would win, so the immediate reaction is bound to be one of disappointment. But on reflection they'll generally think that they did a bloody good job and it was all worth it.

Complete carnage in the 110m hurdles, we don't normally have this many fallers do we? It's like the Grand National this*
* rumours of the Chinese athlete being shot are unconfirmed at this stage.

Shame the younger one had to serve a 15 second penalty for getting on his bike too early, either way well done to them. Are we in with a shout to win another gold in the windsurfing?

I think it's wrong that an athlete is brought in to help other team members. I would want to do the best I can and try and win the race not slow the pack down.
