Extremely.

I like tinkering with hardware. I've built my own NAS which streams music/films/tv/photos to my HTPC (also self-built), laptop, tablet & phone.

I love using batch files and macros to do even the most mundane of tasks that would only take 10 seconds to do manually, just because I can.

interested in building my own NAS. what parts have you used and (because i know naff all about them) can i link them through my router (WNDR3800) to accept both mac & pc connections?

Last time someone tidied the lab cabling at a place I worked at it ruined a weekends testing...

PS. On the second rack you plugged the 17th blue patch cable in the third switch into the wrong socket Wink

But I bet you are still calm. Disk de-fragmentation takes at least a week when you watch it.

To be honest there probably are cables not plugged in to the correct ports. most i either remembered to wrote down but the odd one once id untangled it and was ready to plug it back in, i realised i didn't know where i'd taken it from. :-) So no doubt come Monday there will be a few confused people in the office, but i'm not fussed as im working in a different office monday :-)

Tidying up a few cables as part of your job isn't geeky.

I just cabled up the offices of a charity in my spare time (and without being paid). Had to rip out the old cabling first and install everything from scratch including 48 network wall points, new switches and patch panels and all the cabling and trunking (throughout a 3 storey building). It works and they've now got a nice new gigabit network throughout their building.

Next up is upgrading them from SBS2003 to SBS2011.
