Be great if there was free camping along the route.

Would love to give that a go. Am off up to the Peak District this weekend, can't beat a good walk with great scenery.

I broke a toe in Edale, on the night before starting the Pennine Way. Got up in the night to go for a pee after too much Old Peculiar, and stubbed my to on a tree root in the campsite.
We were camping it (no pansy youth hostels for us), and also were taking 2 golden retrievers, so we were carrying enough dog food to last the trip as well as all our kit. 3 weeks of walking 250+ miles with a broken toe that hurt like buggery every time I put my foot down.
