That's it in a nutshell. I can't find it on google, my searches for "chicken soap" and "chicken button" have been fruitless.
But the nutty lady showed us this little nob of skin toward the base of the chicken's back. It secretes a substance which they use to clean their feathers. Other birds must have it too.
