Any tips on parking?

I used park and ride before From some school and it was a right ball ache!

Any road names would be useful!!

I' going to park in the pay and display by the train station (Railway Street for Sat Navs) as it's on;y £3 and a 10 minute walk to the ground from there.
There is loads of street parking round the ground but I'm not sure if it's resident parking. Would offer lifts as I'm going down there on my lonesome, but I'm going from Surrey.

Don't know if this will help anyone.....maybe in terms of costs, but I'm already going to be in Pikeyland so can't offer a lift there. However if you can get there I'm happy to offer a free lift back. So if a return train ticket is too much money, you can get a single and get a ride back home straight after the match. Will be home by 7.30-8.00pm.

Or at very worst get nothing, although I do think we will get a draw down there.

The good news is, we could lose 7-0 and still get promoted, as long as Crawley or Torquay drop points. Obviously winning and claiming the title has to be the aim...

I did go Tuesday hoping to see us promoted but Although I can't be there Saturday would still love us to get all three points which will leave us the last two games to get at least one more. Also hoping we get the points ourselves rather than others dropping them, reckon it will feel even more special this way.

All the nearest rds round the ground are residents only but if you are prepared to walk 10 mins there is loads of street parking. If not there is a shed load at of room at the station. Woodlands primary school also offer matchday parking from £2 from 1.30 onwards. Postcode is ME7 2DU.....see link below to see how close it is to ground.

Serious question - and I know this runs the risk that I'm going to be ridiculed mercilessly if there's an obvious answer.  But why are Gillingham known as the Pikeys?

Is that part of Kent home to a large traveller community?  Do men tend to wear their hair a little longer than average?  (I suppose Rooney does.)

If I'm honest, I haven't got the first idea how the nickname came about.  Anyone care to illuminate?

I believe it originally came about due to the high population of travellers in the area, they though are self proclaimed Pikey Army so don't see it as an insult, wierdly, but the actual origin I can honestly say I don't know.

The Pikey police saw it as an insult a couple of years ago.
