I know we have some smart techie bods on here so just wanted to check if this is possible, or if anyone has done this.
We have just bought a new HD TV, and most of the connections are HDMI.
We haven't got an HD Sky box yet, so it is currently connected to the TV via the only SCART connection on the TV.
We also have a DVD recorder, which also only connects via a SCART connection.
So the question is, can I get an adapter that will allow me to plug a SCART cable to an HDMI port on my TV?

You can get cheaper but that one upscales to HDMI as well.

Ouch, bit pricey, but couldn't find a scart switch box on either Currys or Comet sites. They used to do em I know because I bought one last year when I got my HDTV. Needed one as my sat receivers are all scart

We've always had Sky and have it in the bedrooms as well as the living room. Since upgrading to HD all the upstairs have got really shit pictures, would one of these rectify that? We don't have multi room, I have no idea how it's done tbh as it was done fookin yonks ago.

Anyway the question I have is doesn't your DVD recorder do pass through?
Sky box -> DVD recorder -> TV. Job done for free.

Do the upstairs TVs all have their own Sky box? Or is it just with an RF cable?

How have you got it connected upstairs? Coax? It is possible that the RF out channel needs changing? Did you have to retune your TVs once the new box was installed?

Urm. I'm gonna go with yes. Also yeah we did have to retune the TVs. Can get picture on one of them albeit very grainy and nothing on the other.

Is it just sky that is grainy or all TV channels (if you have freeview connected through your Sky box for example). I'm assuming just Sky because freeview doesn't go grainy.
** Obviously check cables are in firmly, and that if you use a distribution amp that this works and is turned on, etc ***
If just sky then the RF channel out from Sky may be "clashing". The RF channel out is the channel sky transmits its picture on, i.e. the channel the TVs need to tune into to see the sky picture!
This can be changed via Sky installer menu. Press the following on your sky remote, don't worry about what is being shown on the screen until you press "select"
If it is an RF Out issue:
Services, 0, 0, 1, select
you should now see an option labled "rf out(lets)"
use the right arrow to select it
Write down the rf channel number. You can choose a different "rf channel number" and save it. You will need to retune your TV upstairs to see if it makes any difference. If not you can repeat the process and change it back again (and retune the TV again).
It'll make more sense when you try it.

Ok thanks Batch, I'll refer back to this at some point as I'm at work and off to that London for the weekend after!
One thing though - I have built in freeview on my TV and I can't tune it at all. Says there is no aerial connection. Even though there is!

Does freeview work on anything at all?
If not I guess the aerial isn't good enough/pointing the wrong way. NOt sure we can even get it here near Heydon!
Oh one quick thing to try on the sky box, if it has an aerial connected to it just disconnect it to see if the picture improves upstairs.

Nah I don't think so, the TV in my room was the only one that ever used it anyways. It worked absolutely fine before Sky+ HD was installed. It's not a massive deal really, would just be nice to have it back!
