I have a 2500 word essay (not a practice one) to do and the question is -   How has enlargement from 15 to 27 member states changed the European Union?

I'm bedridden with crippling diarrhoea and stomach pains at the moment so was hoping you guys could give me some ideas. I know fuck all about EU politics but I didn't have a choice with regards to the course, as I was 0.5 credits short and this was the only course they had left.

Thanks in advance.

It's made it more unlikely that you'll get a quiz question...name all 27 states?  Mainly because it's quite difficult to do so, whereas 15...not too bad, unless of course the question is name the 15, before the addition of another 12.

So far I've got

-Made immigration easier as a result of the Schengen agreement
-Allows more extreme parties to have more of a say in the European Parliament
-Affects internal balance of power as new members bring different ideas to the table
-Reform of EU institutions to cope with influx of new member states

What has the EU ever done for us?

I'm guessing it strengthens the Euro as more countries/people use it?

Surely it would make it a more powerful currency if there is more usage?
