What a load of tossers!!  After the game today my son's Peugeot 207 wouldn't start, seems as if the starter motor is jammed.  Rest of the electrics seem ok.  Called the RAC, they arrived at 7 o'clock, their guy said he could not locate the starter and did not know where it was, only had a small torch to work in the dark!!  In the end they offered to tow it back to my son's home in Bicester - but the tow truck cannot arrive before 11-30 pm!!  First class service - not! Doh

Or just get a hammer and give the starter motor a thwack. Used to happen on my old car a lot. Normally a swift blow from a hammer and it was fine for a few weeks.

Yeah, that was what the RAC bloke came up with!!  Problem is it does not solve the problem if it happens tomorrow or he stalls it on the way home!!  And yes Chalkies Shorts we've just come back from the pub to await the tow truck!!  Barry, it is so tight under the bonnet we couldn't find the starter motor, I did at least expect the RAC bloke to know where it was - but as he had come from Bristol I guess you can forgive him!!!!  Thick twat.

Just an update on this total farce.  11-30 came and went and no sign of the recovery truck.  About midnight my son rang the RAC again - 25 minutes to get an answer (imagine that if you are broken down on a small country road, especially if you are female!).  It appears that the idiot who came to the car from the RAC and told us they couldn't recover until 11-30 then went ahead and booked the tow truck -except as the lady from the RAC pointed out they actually use the 24 hour clock and he should have said it was 23-30!!  Yes, it was booked for 11-30 Sunday morning!!!!!  She said she would sort it and within about 20 minutes a truck from local people Greenmeadow appeared (could have been Yeo that sent them) and at 1-15 am the car and passengers were finally on their way back to Bicester!!  Pantomime season anybody!

I had a big wrench from a socket set. It made me feel like a mechanic or someone knowledgable because someone's car once wouldn't start an the Esso garage I used to work in. I went out, realised there was power, but it wouldn't turnover, got my socket from my car, asked him to pop the bonnet, gave it a whack for him - hero status.

Cheers Yeo, neighbours didn't seem too happy this morning with being woken up at 1 am with this damned great diesel engine banging on outside for about 20 minutes!!  Fuck 'em, I told one of them to contact the RAC and complain!!

I was an RAC member for a couple of years - had to call them a couple of times and they were terrible. Since then I've used a couple of their "budget" competitors.  The service has been first class - Green Flag in particular were very, very good.  I am now on rescuemycar.com.  Very budget - I'm hoping I won't have to use them...
