All I know is when I was helping a mate out some months back I told him to wait because the prices had gone through the roof. They're looking cheaper now and I used to love Seagate. I think as long as you avoid Hitachi/IBM Deskstars (a personal hate of mine) you're probably good. Although I think you should buy a solid state. They're good.

Although I think you should buy a solid state. They're good. Unless it's for the OS I wouldn't bother, as sonic is looking at a 2tb guess it's for storage. Is the sata controller a 3 sonic? Samsung Spinpoints are rather good too

I've got a 128GB SSD for my OS and my motherboard is indeed SATAIII. The 2TB will be to store all my music, films, games and porn Ordinarily I'd wait for prices to come down much further but I haven't got enough space to back everything up before the drive dies

They're probably very good, I just have a phobia of them. I think I went through 3 in a year and then lost 250GB from a backup because one kicked the bucket. In fairness the last drive I lost was a Toshiba, but I think that was also called a Deskstar, or something similar, which doesn't help.

I've had most problems with WD, tho saying that my Raptors have been fine
Samsung, I've had no problems with apart from installing a Sata 2 on a Sata 1 controller

Shouldn't make any difference, surely? It would just operate at a lower speed.

my HDD is failing in my macbook pro so i've purchased a new one (moments XT 500gb) but then i realised that my HDD is under warranty!
so i think i'll keep the moments and sell my RMA replacement which is a Western Digital Scorpion Black
