Coffee is a pretty good substitute for zinc.

I went through a spell of being really tired all the time. Never had any trouble sleeping and was getting a regular 6 to 8 hours a night but found myself feeling constantly tired. Do you know what cured mine? A new job.

What Samdy said...  I used to get up at 6.15am and felt shagged all the time.  Switched jobs, get up at 7.15am now and rarely feel tired.  Even at weekends I don't tend to get a lie in, unless I have a hangover, in which case I don't think you get the benefit.  That extra hour makes a world of difference.

No matter where I've worked, how early the start (was once 3am), I've never managed to put myself to bed before 11pm.

The more I do during the day, the better I sleep.. If I have a day off and do nothing with it I can't sleep at night.

I get up for work at 4:15 am every day and my body has adjusted to this over the years.

The upshot is, by 6pm i'm knackered and ready for bed.

I find i'm fine until I sit down and rest. Thats when I realise i'm tired and want to sleep.

I woke up an hour ago. Although in fairness I didn't get to sleep until 4am so it is kinda justified.

I don't get the recommended 8 hours Kip each night, I will wake up early and stay awake. I thought you need less sleep as you get older? I could easily Kip for 10 to 12 hours when I was younger, especially after a night out.  Pint

Nah that's bollox...up til the age of about 30, I could happily go out every night of the week, ok earlier closing of pubs, but could easily function and keep a job....from about 30 with the onset of kids, it had to be reduced to mostly 4 nights a week, preferably with some sort of siesta involved. Post 50, I had to trim down to 3 nights a week apart from holidays, and post 55, weekends and holidays only with kipping time being a good hour, hour and a half earlier, in order to function at work Sad

I recommend EVERYONE takes supplements during winter.

I would recommend taking none of that supplement shit. Instead concentrate on eating a bit of fruit and veg which contains natural versions of the chemically synthesised vitamins and minerals. I'm highly dubious as to the effectiveness of taking pills to replace what you're not eating.

There's a sleep cycle app for the iPhone, I used it a handful of times before stopping. It was interesting to see the graphs which show how deep you sleep. But I'm so competitive that I found myself going to bed with my mind occupied by the thought of beating my deepness of sleep from the nights before, resulting in worse sleep.

The more light there is the less sleep i need.

I get up early on a regular basis,in the spring and summer months i feel a lot less tired than the dark months of winter.

Yes, they are called "Sleep Cycles"

http://www.mind-expanding-techniques.com/sleep-cycles.html

Some useful info on waking up refreshed:

- Sleep with a window open (On cold nights counterbalance this with central heating as temp is important)
- Wear Ear plugs (noise during sleep is damaging to your heart)
- Keep the curtains open. Natural light is best, especially when waking up.
- Don't snooze, get straight out of bed.
- Drink water before you go to bed and when you wake up.
- Try to go to sleep and wake up at similar times each night and morning.

I'm fucked then thanks to my shift pattern. I say pattern, it doesn't actually follow anything that remotely resembles a pattern.

When I used to work nights we had to buy extra thick curtains so i could get some sleep in the mornings. I find it really difficult    Getting to sleep unless it's really dark, don't even have one of those digital clocks because of the glow they give off. Really envy people who can sleep anytime any place.

Getting to sleep is simple - just make some recordings of Match of the Day and put them on when you need to sleep. You will be snoring on the sofa in no time.

actually did that Saturday night Wiggy, thought I would be able to sit through MOTD and then watch our 10 seconds worth. No chance, woke up around 1.30am. I blamed it on the hip flask !

Go to bed, even if its just a few hours think that you're about to have the best nights sleep in the world and wake up with a smile on your face.  Works like a dream.

Bit of fresh air also makes a big difference.  This time of year most of trudge between house, car, office, car, brothel and home again without getting a bit of air.
