A trivial question.....i ordered a piece of carpet over the holiday period....i need a few replies to judge right or wrong or maybe who gives a fuck Cheesy.....but its bugging me so here goes.

I ordered some carpet 12 ft by 8 ft.........i would have said the 12 ft is the length?.....unfortuanatly on arrival the shop had it round the other way and is adamant the first measurement i gave (12ft) is the width Eek
Also i know is should be metres these days but that is another argument.
Not important so dont tell me to get a life but just wondered how people see it?.....

Am I being really stupid, or can you not just rotate the carpet 90 degrees?

I'm presuming there are bits pre-cut out of it or something...

I'm after much though I'm with you. However, they should have asked you which way round the numbers were especially if the carpet has any sort of pattern to it. I'd be a belligerent so and so and just dump the fucking thing back in the shop and demand my money back or another piece, failing all that just leave it there and go somewhere else and make sure as many of their customers know about it. Want to name and shame?

The pile would be running in a different direction?

Presumably there's a pattern Nemo.

One normally quotes 'length, width and depth/height' in that order. So 12 x 8 would to me be 12ft long.

How disappointing, I thought this was going to be a debate about knob size, the sort of thing that might have got a reply from Birdy....

Carpet place at Hawkesworth.....they have been good about to be fair and as Nemo said maybe just turn it but what if i had ordered  say for a hall....a long hall 12 by 3 then you couldnt turn that around.
Its all sorted now but i was just asking the question and maybe gently warning peeps to be carefull if ordering just in case.

For you knob freaks its length and girth that matters....not width Wink
