I know a lot of people dont like the FLS but those of us who have more interest in the FL rather than the Premiership its good to watch.  Just fast forward through the needless chat.

Well, yes and no. The BBC has another year of rights to the highlights after the end of the season so they might want to make their own show rather than buy in the independent, and largely crap, Football League Show.

Nope, independent production company and it is clearly done on the cheap - hence total lack of research - and Claridge. Someone else might be able to make a better programme when their contract ends.

While it's generally a shite alternative to Match of the Day, as an exiled fan I actually do find myself looking forward to watching our 10 seconds of highlights each week.

If it were to continue, I think it needs big changes mind. They took a step in the right direction this season by getting rid of that stupid fans-interact section after each league.

For me, they now need to make the highlights and coverage more equal between the leagues. At the moment, it's probably about 50 minutes spent reviewing Championship action with (normally) two extended match highlights. Leagues One and Two then share 40 minutes of highlights with extended coverage only shown when a match in either of these leagues is on Sky or the Beeb. For me, an extended match for each league every week would make the show much, much more appealing.

Oh, and please get rid of that cunt Claridge!

 I watch it on i-player, but only if Town have won, or creditable draw, which meant little viewing last season, but it's fucking typical, as its more or less the only BBC show that I bother with.  So for my licence fee, I do use the BBC web sites, Wiltshire Sound and that's about it.

 Also I read somewhere that local radio football coverage is for the axe as well....ace    just think of the horror of Brunel Radio

I work in TV and I can tell you that the turn around time to get all those games fed in on a stream,edited, scripted, voiced and then assembled together in such a short space of time is of miracle standards. Games finish at say 4:50pm on a saturday. All these games are then edited down for the 40 secs or whatever with one or two extended highlights to be put out 6 hours later.

The rule of thumb in TV is 1 minute of programming you watch takes about 1 hour of actual time to assemble.

Yes, it can be 'bettered' but with the time constraints involved and the deadlines they are up against, what they produce is pretty good.

I think i'd probably prefer it if they scrapped the tv show altogether, made the highlights for each match longer and put them online.

To start off with, I am not trying to be-little the BBC.

I think this is just a co-ordination thing.  Let's take Swindon as an example:

- Gary Rose provides a detailed update on the match (including times) on twitter (and probably bbc.co.uk)
- the video editor looks at the key updates / times, then creates the 10 seconds of Swindon action

I can only assume all other league teams do the same and surely that doesn't take that long.

You're missing a lot.

All games are probably streamed or uploaded via the internet by the said person at all the grounds i.e. the cameraman. This is real time in some cases. This will then be edited, audio levelled to make sure it's broadcast standard, the scripts are written in accordance to what clips are sent through from each ground. Voiceover will have to be done (and this normally doesn't happen in one go - mistakes are made). Voices onto the action, action exported to a running order. Export is also real time. Trust me, it's a ball ache!!

So why on earth do the beeb go to all this effort to rush out a show for a start time of 23:30 that hardly anyone watches live?

I Sky+ it (so I can FFWD through 99.9% of it) or watch online the next day, so why don't they relax, put a bit more effort in and screen it on a Sunday or Monday night?

IMO the program is pretty shite, all that faux brickwork, glass walkways and soft lighting... its like a lacquered and polished Network 7, but with added 'aaahhh-you-don't-support-a-premiership-club' condescension and less Magenta de Vine.
