Touchy subject, I know, so I don't want to inflame any simmering sensitivity...but the PDC 'fascism' story has run its course now.  Most accept, I think, that his sympathy with the philosophy was along the lines of the Mussolini bring order to an inherently chaotic country (Italy) and 'getting the trains to run on time' variety, rather than the exterminating your enemy/racist variety espoused elsewhere.  I don't want to get caught up in any intricate historical arguments, bacause I don't think they're relevant here.

Mex - if you did decide to draw a line under this and come back properly, I don't think anyone would think less of you for it.  It irritates the hell out of me that dedicated, passionate fans like you and Davis feel you have had to sacrifice something you love because of something our new manager said or did over 10 years ago.  Deep down, you're a Town fan first & last.  Hope that wins through in the end.

I said it purely as a joke, as there was a similar comment made in another thread. I didn't mean anything by my comment as I am sure Mex knows.

I think it's dishonest to think you can support the cuddly bits of fascism and ignore the inconvenient bits.

Rubbish. There are various political ism's that I agree with bits of, doesn't mean I'm a Marxist, Communist, Liberalist or a whateverist and it certainly doesn't mean I agree with everything that they stand for.

Ooops. Didn't mean to start off a boring political discussion!

I might delete my account and go in a big strop! Smiley

I'll bite as well.  My reading of PDC's autobiography suggests otherwise.  I simply do not buy the argument that PDC's views are anything close to those associated with mainstream fascism.  I think some people have got as far as the word 'fascism' and no further, without trying to look in to what was meant my it.  Overly simplistic, in my view.  The world is not black & white.

I really don't want to go into an early summer timewarp, but I think you're being a bit selective if you feel you can pick and choose the bits of fascism you don't mind. Just my view, but I think if you have the tattoo, you've bought the package. I can do shades of grey, but this one was black and white for me.

A bit like the Tory MP Aidan Burley, who seems to quite like Nazi themed stag parties...

my abiding memory of the stratton bank was collecting coins that bournemouth fans were chucking at us
was that the 87 play off season? i remember that, getting covered in tomato sauce after they had raided the little kiosk in the corner just before the game started then it all kicking off during the game our lot throwing a policemans helmet back and forth with the Bournemouth fans! fuckin hilarious...then about two hundred of us being escorted round the ground to be put in the Town End boiling hot day if i remember rightly.

I deleted the post you quoted precisely because I had second thoughts and didn't want to get in to a protracted argument.  I can see where you're coming from...but I'm more with Jonny than with you.  Black & white for you; very, very grey for me.  I think it's not at all disingenuous to be very selective in circumstances like these.  Fascism is a word.  Just because I believe in limited wealth redistribution, this does not make me a communist.  Like I said...I think you need to read beyond the headline here.  If you've not read PDC's autobiography, you should.

Not really. If you buy a tin of quality street, and only like the purple ones, then you don't eat the whole tin do you? You aren't a fan of quality street, you're a fan of the purple ones, which fall under the quality street banner.

Do you not think if you are going to make a decision like you have it is wise to read/hear both sides rather than just the one side you have read.

Feel free to DM me as don't want this thread being taken over by the same old shit again
