Based on that, I'm gonna suggest your girlfriend is slightly older than you.
I remember Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Inspector Gadget, and Transformers and I'm a thirtysomething. OK perhaps I should have been too old for the turtles! Duck Tales was born in 87 and Popeye has been around forever! Dukula was 1988. Moomins around the same time or a bit earlier. Based on this information a) I have too much time on my hand and/or am avoiding doing some work b) you are quite old too, and your memory is shot.

On a slightly different, but vageuly related topic, when at primary school, we used to have these 'educational' videos in assembly every now and then. One of them was a classic depicting the dangers of playing on railway lines, it was called Tommy or Johnny or something like that. Anyway, to cut a long story short, Johnny/Tommy was playing on the railway line with his mate, and surprise surprise, got his foot caught in the line, train came along and chopped his legs off.

I remember. I think it took his foot (feet) off rather than his whole leg! I recall him being carried with his stumps wrapped in bandages. Charlie the Cat was the best educational character of all time!

I seem to remember a poster in woodwork and metalwork classes with a picture of a hammer splatting a peach. There is definitely a reference to it in a Half Man Half Biscuit song as well. What was all that about?

A year younger actually, she just has more "classical" tastes

It was called 'Apaches' I think. 'Building sites bite' was another one.

Indeed he was. But what you was to remind me about was perhaps the most disturbing character in a school TV series, Jigsaw. I give you Mr Noseybonk: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b383/beneneuman/noseybonk.jpg Anyone remember the adventure game?
What the one where they arrive on a space ship, then do a series of challenges Crystal Maze style, where one of the characters was an aspidistras plant and where to win they had to defeat the Vortex. Never heard of it.

Yep, it's the one you've never heard of. They were lizards/ humanoids; there was one who spoke backwards and often said " doogy rev"
