He went a bit bonkers in later life, but will always be a legend of Saturday tea time. RIP.

RIP Jimmy

Funny thing is, it was only in later years he went all bling. I can still remember him like this.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45610000/jpg/_45610492_jimfixit_270309_ex_leeds.jpg
Edit: OK, I've just spotted the bling in that photo as well. I think it was the lack of shell suit (which probably hadn't been invented by that point) that threw me.

I have a friend that broke his neck in a car accident when we were in 6th form - he spent a long time in Stoke Mandiville hospital & we used to go & visit - Sir Jimmy spent alot of time there just chatting with the patients etc & raised alot of money for the place - my friend was very fond of him - the hospital was a bit like a shrine to him He seemed like a good hearted kind man even if he never fixed it for me to go on funhouse!

I read today that he raised over £40 million for charity in his lifetime. Astounding.
RIP Sir Jimmy.

Fair play to you Jimmy. Not only raised the money but also gave his time to good causes. There are not many English eccentrics left and there's one less now.

Fair play to you Jimmy. Yeah, fair play to you, Jimmy. (Assuming you're reading this essential forum before heading off into the ether)

I remember Jim'll fix it from my childhood, good memories!!
Seemed a bit weird later in life. Louis Theroux did a show with him and he kept his dead mother's clothes in a wardrobe in his room. Also there were some pretty murky allegations about him, which I guess we'll never know is true.
