I personally think that would be a good move, a 6 month loan to get some 1st team games and get stronger.

We were rumoured to be after Connell back in the day when King was boss, think that was when he signed for Torquay.

Is this the same Ralphy that was crestfallen at not signing Adam Birchall?
Birchall > Connell

He just seems an all round more complete player. Don't get me wrong, Connell's scoring record last season speaks for it's self but I'd have been happier with Birchall. Hope I'm proved wrong.

Connell's football league record is actually better than Birchall's.

Wasn't expecting a signng until atleast next week so this was a surprise. Had a good record at Grimsby so let's hope he will be able to replicate it a league higher.

Don't think anyone has any basis to say one or other would be better unless they've watched both players regularly. Both good records at non-league level. Connell at a higher level, even if his record in league football isn't quite as prolific (although from reading about him he's had injury problems and played as a second striker, not the main frontman, previously).
Connell wanted to come, so fuck Birchall I say!
i think it's a good signing. Lot of money to spend on him, but strikers ain't cheap.
The fact is, if the season started tomorrow, we have two proper strikers. That's a start...

I am well chuffed with this - a player who knows the level we are playing at and will work hard. Still need a big man really.

I looked at his record and assumed he was more of a target man but having seen some his goals i'd say he's the opposite of that. He's a bit lighweight apparently but some of his goals for Grimsby were class.
