Despite abandoning the bid (for now), this could be a great opportunity for News Corp as the BSkyB share price is plummeting so could just sweep up a load of shares for much less than what they were proposing.
Not sure they can, as they already own over 30% wouldn't a further purchase trigger a mandatory takeover offer? Plus Murdoch isn't completely stupid, if he bought just a single share more the shit would hit the fan - there is already talk of News Corp being forced to dispose of its share holding in BSkyB. |

They've already spent $5bn on a buy-back of News Corp shares.
Quite a canny bastard, really.
Might not have this right but isn't there some sort of 'cooling off period' whereby having lodged a takeover bid they now can't buy any shares in BSkyB for 3 months for that very reason? |

I really don't see what the hysteria is all about. Sure wrong things have been done, people need to be sent down for it, etc etc. But, the crime is hacking into mobile phones etc. Nobody's died because of it.
I see Brown, making the effort to attend parliament to have a go, (where he is protected by privelege) when he imho has committed a far greater crime, (spending money the country didn't have). This is the same Brown that attended Brooks' Wedding after he (falsely) alleges that she was responsible for hacking into his sons medical records.

That's insider dealing/market abuse and they'd never get away with it.
Depends which of his organisation he uses for the share purchase. This deal was between News International and BSKYB so he could just use a separate entity as an investment vehicle. |

Just a general rip off Britain trend, the company has few competitors, and as long as people keep paying they will keep increasing prices. One thing I would like like to know is, why the Italian version of Sky has far shorter advertising breaks? Is it because the Italian viewing public have a far lesser tolerance of advertising than we do. In case you didn't know they also have a stranglehold in Italy and Germany |

The 43-year-old was arrested by appointment at a London police station and remains in custody.
She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption.
