Funnily enough I was thinking about this the other day and think the first single I bought was 'Somebody to Love' by Queen.  Though I  can remember back in the early 70's, buying the cheap Top of the pops LP's you could get from Woolies for 49p, think these days you'd call them cover bands, and Most of them sounded nothing like the original groups/singer. They always had some scantily clad female form on the cover in a provocative pose, like soft porn to us early teens back then.

I had to google it.

Soul II Soul - Keep On Moving was the first single I bought, and Terence Trent D'Arby - Introducing The Hardline picture disc was the first album I got.  Both from the "our price" which was a couple of yards from mcilroys.

Good times!

I remember I didn't really listen to much music until I started secondary school. Just as 1994 was starting, a new band called Oasis were emerging and this was their first single released in April 1994. I was 12 years old.
