Humour me. Who DID McMahon get rid of?
try reading the thread properly, its already been answered Trollope, Rowlands. Basically most of the people that were there in the good times (the previous 10 years) in the background were purged. People who loved STFC. You wonder whether working with McMahon was enough to tip the kit man over the edge (Kevin Morris?).
Shaun Taylor and Fjortoft were both too popular with the fans for McMahon.

Not all on one subject tho. Please don't write, it'll be straight in the recycle bin if you do
If you paid any attention you'd know I have been posting on this forum (and others) for years! The vast majority of my posts were prior to Di Canio's arrival and have generally been reasonably well received. THe last time I got this animated was over the fight to remove Diamandis from the club. Don't recall too many people disagreeing with me then!

Not sure that I agree with the analysis you have quoted. Taylor and Fjortoft would have HAD to go following our relegation. There's no way we could have kept them on premier league wages with third division attendances. As for Trollope and Rowland, I was sad to see them go, (particularly Trollope) but EVERY manager brings in his own team behind the scenes, (as Wilson did and Di Canio has done). The issue with the Kevin Morris is very difficult to talk about and I don't know that we even should. None of us can really know what happened there, but I seem to recall his wife has died not long before hand. The fact remains that I don't recall ANYBODY having a major problem with McMahon while things were going well. And YES, I was there for the on-pitch protests.

I just thought I'd add that Kevin Morris' suicide occurred during John Gorman's tenure as manager.

I doubt Shaun Taylor was ever on 'Premiership wages' he'd signed in 91 and didnt leave till September 96 after our relegation from the Premier League, our relegation from Division One and our promoted from Division Two.
Fjortoft wasnt sold till deadline day in our division one season, so not right away like he needed be off the wage bill - and for 1.3m - one of the most under valued transfers in history! Few months later Norwich got 5m for Chris bloody Sutton!!!

This remains quite probably the most pathetic sum ever received for a striker of his calibre. A travesty.

fjortoft could have kept us up with his goals, he was sold on transfer deadline day for a pitiful amount of money. we could easily have sold him in the close season and could have still got more than we did anyway - it was widely felt at the time that mcmahon was jealous of the love for fjortoft. as for taylor that was completely out of the blue and the money we got for him was shit too.

He'd had a decent premier league season then played at the World Cup. Had already got 25 goals come March and was one of the highest goal scorers in England. ## Andy Cole was the British record transfer at the time 7m January 95. Broken by Bergkamp in June 7.5m

Can't say I paid much attention tbh having only joined myself Thursday, September 24, 2009 just before the transfer of Austin from Poole. Just a relative newbie here. So really you only bother posting if something pisses you off?

He did get rid of people who loved the club because he wanted people who were servants of himself. Most players at that time said he was an angry, aggressive man who made playing football at STFC a completely joyless experience and turned good people away from the club time and time again.

Taylor and Digby
Absolute legends, two names that make me proud to be a Swindon fan. Fjortoft wasn't here for that long but still rightly earned a legendary status amongst the fans and loved it here.
I still seethe at the thought of that scouse cunt getting rid for his own personal gains. I remember him saying he wanted players "in his own mould". What an arrogant fucking prick he was.
Dorset...... Stop your trolling and fuck off.

So, what I'm hearing is a lot of "many people think" and "it was widely felt" but no hard facts. I agree Fjortoft was sold for a pitiful amount of money but I don't hold with the view that this was becasue of McMahon's jealousy. As I remember it at the time, people were getting pissed off with McMahon to the point that threats of violence were being made against him. This was partly because he was a P.R. disaster. He came across as arrogant and intollerant of the fans. The same was said of Andy King late on in his second reign at the club and we can certainly agree that this is how Paul Hart came across. My point is this; the manager of the club has a high profile P.R. position as well as having the responsibility for performances on the pitch. If the manager comes across badly, (like McMahon, King, Malpas and Hart) people turn against him. This brings me back to Di Canio. If I, or anybody else, should ask him a question which might have some impact on the public's perception of him, he has a DUTY to respond. If he fails to respond he runs the risk of beeing classed alongside McMahon, King and Hart with an arrogant attitude towards supporters of the club (which, of course, would only happen when most fans started to think things were going badly). The question of his political views and past conduct has been raised by a small group of people (not least me). Although the numbers raising the question are few, he should not ignore it and hope it goes away as that will only breed more resentment. All he needs to do is be quite open in acknowledging that many disagree with his views and make some sort of gesture towards those who WANT to go on watching the club but find it difficult under the current circumstances. As I have stated several times before, my particular concern is towards my Jewish friends who have followed the club for years but feel they can not back a man who has openly supported the views of Benitop Mussolini, (resonsible for anti-Semitic legislation in Italy in the run-up to WW2). Now, I don't want to go over the whole argument again. You know where I stand and I know that most of you don't give a flying f***. Let the insults recommence.

Not trolling. Read my last post and at least TRY to understand what the problem is. I fear that the second syllable of your name is quite appropriate.
