Anyone recommend anywhere nice to stay/eat/drink/walk in the cotswolds? taking Mrs J for birthday in the week. Any suggestions gratefully received...

Proper walk, as in hills and stuff, or somewhere to walk around. Bourton-on-the-water is a nice picture postcard village to walk around on a sunny day. But there isn't much to do other than visit Birdland or get a cream tea/ice cream! http://www.bourtoninfo.com/http://www.birdland.co.uk |

Its quite picturesque, worth a butchers if its not off your route. I always take any guests we have there, northerners and the like  For proper walking I'm afraid its not my thing. The last time I went walking in the Cotswold Hills was in Primary School 20something years ago! Obviously there is the Cotswold Way, but you probably googled that already: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/cotswold/Somewhere to stay. Again no help whatsoever! |

Plenty of good walking in the Cotswolds....a reasonably simple 10 miler, is to use The Cotswold Way out of Winchcombe then loop back as you go round Cleeve Cloud, head for Postlip and follow the River Isbourne back to Winchcombe. Winchcombe has got to have somewhere posh to stay.

Loads of places to go and stay and you could even use our town as a base (Chipping Norton). Not far from Stratford upon Avon or the villages of Upper Slaughter,Lower Slaughter or Guiting Power. Make sure you visit Batsford Arboretum lots of nice walks there. Bourton on the Water is OK but always crowded and full of day trippers. Broadway is a nice village and good views from the tower.

The Falconry centre is pretty good too. I'd steer clear from Burford. It's steep. |

http://www.oldswanandminstermill.com/Used to love going here about 25 years ago, but I see now that it is run by deSAVARY so is probably not like it was when we went. Still can't take away from the charm of the actual building though I suppose.

My kids loved him when they were smaller and we visisted BoW specifically to see Brum in the flesh, so to speak. Still plenty of life in the little yellla fella yet. Fortunately now they're a bit older and wiser they rightly despise all things yellow as grossly inferior |

The Swan at Southrop is a bit pricey but it is quality food...lovely place to walk around......Eastleach a mile up the road is a lovely village.....has a pub but more pub a pub lunch and a pint really.
Southrop has at least four walks alone.
Drive through Lechlade,onto the Burford road and Southrop/Eastleach is the first turning left.
