Attention all computer boffins. Want to run my laptop through tv. Have no hdmi on tv so got vga lead but tv says no signal.help!

There's usually a button you need to press to turn the output from the laptop on (usually the function key +f4 I think). Wait a moment after that and hopefully it should work.

Have you tol the PC to output to the VGA lead?

For example, on my laptop the Fn+F8 cycles through the options LCD screen, CRT (VGA) and LCD+VGA.

It's obvious on mine as F8 has LCD/CRT written on it. Tell us the model and we may be able to helpmore.

Have you pressed the Fn+function key to turn on the external display port which turns off the laptop screen so it only outputs to the external display?

Could also be that the resolution on the external display is set higher than the TV can actually show.
