I travel to Bristol everyday for work. Depending on the time of day really. Early morning rush hour trafic on the M32 is a nightmare as is the m4/m5 interchange. If you are going in rush hour save at least an hour and a half minimum. Better early than late.

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit...

What ever you do, don't assume its the big one they used to test concorde at at Filton, between Swindon and Bristol. I got someone to pick me up from there once, and when I couldn't find them I had to ask some chap in the bar where I was, and it was Lulsgate or something - found out I was on the wrong side of Bristol !

If you don't know Bristol very well you might be better off going M4/M5/A38 - it's all signposted down the M5, and you don't have to go through the city centre, where there are tonnes of roadworks at the moment. It might be physically a bit longer, but at least you won't be sitting and waiting - and getting lost.
If you go via city centre, you have to go down M32, Bond Street/Newfoundland St (roadworks) then down St Augustine's Parade (always busy) ... around the back to Hotwells Road (roadworks) and then over the Cumberland Basin.
Trust me, M5 easier.
