Only been to one of those three - Krakow - can thoroughly recommend that, though it will be cold - we went in Feb and it never got above -10 -very atmospheric at Auschwitz though. And they have no trouble coping with the snow so if it's still there you won't have any cancellations etc

About 40 miles I think - can get tours from Krakow by bus (which is what we did) or go by train - takes about 5 or 6 hours for round trip and visit. Also worth a visit are these - http://www.krakow-info.com/wielicz.htm, but we didn't have time for that. Would like to go back though. If you do go, book a hotel near the cathedral/main square and not on the outskirts - you can walk to most places then.

How far away is Auschwitz?
just over 1 hour by bus, best thing you can do is go buy tickets in advance for a tour to Krakow. They're pretty cheap. Also make sure you go see the salt mines (same style trip), you'll have never been in a smaller lift with other people in your life! I remember it costing us about £16 total at the time (2006) but it works out much more expensive now at nearer £22. As mentioned above though, it's pretty good and last quite a while. Krakow is definitely recommended, the weather in the summer is lovely!

Been to both Prague and Krakow. Went to Prague in summer and Krakow in winter and enjoyed both.
I would probably recommend Krakow, as others have said Aushwitz is a must see and the city centre is lovely. Not sure if this has changed in recent years but I went to Gdansk a couple of years ago and it was cheap as chips, can't remember how cheap Krakow was but as its more of a touristy hot spot (and you get the token chavvy British stag parties often visiting which has hiked up prices) in Poland it might not be as dirt cheap.

If you are thinking of Cork there are some great pubs there and the Savoy has a slightly different atmosphere than Auschwitz!! http://www.savoytheatre.ie/

You can get all the crazy local Polish drinks in there such as microwaved lager, with a strawberry/ginger syrup shot in, topped off with raisins and chocolate flakes! Also they do tonnes of awesome vodkas...

Loads to see and do in both Prague and Krakow, not so much in Cork still a nice place just the same but more for the beer/whisky orientated visit. Krakow still the cheapest option as Prague has turned into a bit of a rip off city particularly centrally. with taking the other half in mind I would put it in Krakow Prague Cork order of preference. If you're in Krakow for a few days worth a day trip to Zakopane (Tatry mountains couple of hours drive) very scenic.

I've always fancied Krakow and Auschwitz, but not yet made it. Out of interest how much are the flights there?

I think Krakow and Prague are both great and never been to Cork. Krakow shades it mainly on price where even a beer sat outside on the main square was around £2. Went there in October for a 50th birthday and everybody was blown away by how cheap it was. Can recommend Antique Apartments for something different than a hotel and trips to Auschwitz and the salt mines are a must, although experience tells me not to go to the salt mines with a hangover as you're underground for a couple of hours, walking 2km. Flights were about £75 return from Stansted booked well in advance.
