We know it happens crispy, because we know the UK isn't utopia.

Sometimes threads are started as a mark of respect and not an opportunity to highlight the wrongs of a nation.

The 2 minute reflection was immaculately observed at my work today by everyone, with or without a poppy.

See Cameron and co got some funny looks in China recently while waring there poppy's.
Seeing how Opium is the biggest vice in China....probably thought we were rubbing it in abit since the debacle of the Opium wars.

Incidently do you know that more Brit service people have died in the recent Afghan conflict...than died at the Battle of Trafalgar...somehow though i dont think there will be the same pomp and ceromony after this episode of our proud history.

Crikey leefer, The Battle of Trafalgar was fought on October 21st 1805 and not over years like Afghanistan!

I would also argue that you cannot compare modern conflict with those of centuries gone by.

If anyone has the chance to get over to visit Ypres and in particular the Menin Gate then I would highly recommend it.  Listening to The Last Post there is a very moving experience.

I have got quite a bit of time for the Belgians.

I spent a few days in Ypres on a school trip back in 2000. We went to the Menin Gate and it's something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

The TEF pressure group should go to Daily Mail HQ and cause mayhem.

Totally agree Arriba, you lot are like a pack of rabid dogs sometimes. Instead of keep telling him to fuck off or that he is a cunt why didnt one of the Moderators remove the offending post and PM the guy letting him know that it wasnt the time or the place for this discussion?

Sums it up for me

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.

Stop off at Didcot on the way, they have their main printworks there
