Corel Draw

My daughters school has stopped using Corel Draw, which is fucking marvelous as my daughter has some work she needs to convert for her GCSEs. Before I rant at the school does anyone know how to convert a Corel Draw file ( .cdr ) into anything useable - ie Word. I've Googled but I can't seem to find anything.
Alternativley does anyone have Corel Draw that I could send them 3 files to be saved as something else - ie Word and then sent back to me.  She will need to be able to make changes to whatever format comes back.
Its a long shot but I'm hoping the TEF can come up trumps. If you're Swindon based a beer would be the bribe.

I find corel draw rather useful for forging official documents.

I've only got an old version and am not that skilled at using it, but I'll give it a whizz if nobody more able will. Obviously it'll be a freebie cos' I don't think the beer would make it it one piece but that's cool.

There are fully functional trial versions of all Corel products:

Download a trial version, open the files and export them in a different format that can be read by something else.

Hmm, turns out I may have something that might be able to import then convert cdr files. If you're still stuck chalkie and jonny's suggestion (which is your best bet) doesn't work, PM me

As she needs to be able to edit the files, you'll need to be careful with how you convert them. I guess it will depend on the type of drawing but from a very quick check, exporting from Corel Draw in svg format seems to be the way to go.

If you need a graphics editor, and I guess you do as you mentioned Word which I imagine is a crock of shit for graphics, you might want to have a look at Gimp - though it was a bit complicated for me the last time I tried it (does too much if anything). Otherwise, you could try Open Office which has a graphics application.

Thanks guys. I think I'll download the trial version now. My daughter knows how to use Gimp so that seems the way to go. Bloody school.

Like pauld and Samdy said, I also thought it had disappeared, well, until a few weeks ago when I found that people who do laser engraving seem to exclusively work in Corel. I don't know why, but they do. Strange.

Then again, I've barely touched Photoshop and avoid it like the plague, so I'm not really one who knows anything about graphics.

Have you tried inkscape supposed to be similar to corel and will import .cdr files (v7-14).

And I'm not sure what all the SVG loving is all about (for the web)? Export as .EPS surely?

I've used it, it's pretty good. In fact that's the thing I was referring to that would enable me to convert the files if needed. I didn't explicitly recommend it for chalkie cos I thought it was Linux only. Didn't realise there was a Windows version. Doh!

I downloaded Corel trial version last night - took an hour. My daughter was able to convert hwer work this morning to something sjhe can now edit and work with. So thanks for your help.
All I've got do now is to help her simplify (2w^4y)(3w^3y^2). I did this type of crap 31 years ago and my memory has been shot with alcohol abuse and watching Town since.
